AAC Services

Every child deserves a reliable way to communicate.

From picture-based systems to speech-generating devices, our AAC services help children build functional communication in whatever form works best for them.
What Is AAC

A Bridge to Communication, Not a Last Resort

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, a term for any tool or strategy that supports or replaces spoken communication. This can range from simple picture cards and communication boards to sophisticated speech-generating devices and tablet-based apps. At CSLL, our speech-language pathologists assess your child’s communication style, motor abilities, and daily needs to recommend the AAC approach that fits them best.
AAC is never treated as a last resort at CSLL. Research consistently shows that AAC supports, rather than replaces, spoken language development for many children, giving them a reliable way to communicate while spoken speech continues to grow. For children who may not develop extensive verbal speech, AAC offers a lasting, effective way to participate fully in conversations, classrooms, and family life.
We provide hands-on training for your child, your family, and your child’s school team, so the system works consistently everywhere your child needs to communicate.
Is This the Right Fit?

AAC May Be a Good Fit If Your Child

Has limited or unclear verbal speech
Becomes frustrated trying to communicate wants and needs
Has a diagnosis such as autism, apraxia, or a motor condition
Uses gestures or behavior in place of words
Would benefit from a reliable backup for developing speech
Needs support participating in classroom or social communication
An AAC evaluation can help determine whether a low-tech or high-tech system, or a combination of both, is the right starting point.
